ROLE PURPOSE:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Junior Product Designer to join our in-house Creative Studio. Based within the UK office, you will work closely with the Creative Studio & Product Development Team, understanding the creative process, industry trends & insights, and technical skills required to create amazing products. You will report directly into the UK Product Designer, learning the creative and technical process’ and skills needed across all areas of the Matrix business; our beauty own-brands, retail clients, and growing travel portfolio. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Concepting and creating 3D products (sketching, modelling, and visualising) across a wide range of creative projects. You will work on beauty product packaging, as well as textiles, accessories, and soft goods.

• Creating technical drawings with clear specifications, taking relevant production processes into account

• Liaison with our China-based Product Sourcing Team to ensure briefs are clear and well communicated to factories.

• Operating in-house 3D printer to create product mock-ups.

• Work with cross-functional teams to ensure we consistently champion sustainability within all project work, in line with the business ESG strategy.

• Submitting work to project leads, taking accountability to plan ahead vs. project workflows to ensure input and direction is incorporated in a timely manner.

• Work closely with the brand and product teams, reviewing and critiquing product samples, making sure that they are fit for purpose from a creative and design standpoint.

• Keeping abreast of trends and inspire the creative team through competitive shops, relevant publications, and your own researching.

• Be an ambassador for professional creative behaviour throughout the team and the business, offer assistance and positive, constructive feedback whenever asked and always demonstrate flexibility and willingness to participate.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

• Product Design degree (or equivalent).

• 1-2 years industry experience in a similar permanent role or design placement.

• A strong portfolio of visual work, displaying photorealistic images and a wide range of creative projects.

• Fluent in SolidWorks (or similar modelling software)

• Fluent in Keyshot (or similar rendering software)

• Proficient in Creative Suite (primarily Photoshop, Illustrator, and ideally InDesign, Premier Pro & After Effects).

• Good working knowledge of 3D printing processes (FDM & Resin Printing).

• Eager to learn new design skills, software & industry knowledge. 

• Passionate for multiple areas of design, beauty, and travel.

• Great communication and collaboration mindset. This includes ability to articulate creative concepts and rationale to other team members.

• The ideal candidate will have knowledge in textiles/fashion/accessories industry, with some experience in fashion/garment design (Marvelous design or similar software).
