Graphic Designer, Performance Marketing (Hybrid)

thelab is looking for a digital designer (4+ years relevant experience) to support performance marketing creative

We are:

An agency of makers with deep expertise in solving creative, production, and technology challenges. Our focus is on making better work, to help brands work better. We partner directly with clients to think big, build from scratch, and design for reality. From branding & design to ecommerce builds or anything in between, thelab mixes inspiration and hard work to produce results that mean business. Oh, and we host a mean barbecue too.

You are:

Excited about digital design, naturally! You follow the latest and greatest in motion graphics, and delight in dynamic typography and color palettes. A well-designed email makes your heart flutter, and your Instagram saved folder is full of great social ads. You know that performance marketing creative requires a different approach than brand creative does, and you’ve got deep experience crafting ads that don’t just look pretty, but also work! You’re well versed in social media design & storytelling trends, and you know how to stand out & break through the noise on a cluttered Instagram feed. You’re a self-starter and team player who understands how to manage up. And you keep your photoshop files well organized, because it’s The Right Thing To Do. You might even be able to convince your Creative Director that product miniatures are the future of advertising. Or not. We’re looking for people with opinions here.

Job Requirements:

The Graphic Designer will report to the Creative Director and work with a team of creative strategists, motion designers, copywriters, and producers on new and current projects for our growing portfolio of performance marketing clients. We’re looking for a range of design and creative capabilities, which include:

  • Experience creating ads for paid channels. Instagram & Facebook ads will make up the bulk of your work, along with Google, Youtube, TikTok, Twitter, and LinkedIn as needed. We’ll look for you to easily plug into our day-to-day projects.
  • Basic understanding of performance marketing best practices as they relate to design. (As in… Static ads should have hooks too!)
  • Basic understanding of the marketing funnel as it relates to ad creative.
  • A love affair with design: We’re looking for someone who is just as obsessed as we are about beautiful typography, photography, and layout.
  • An understanding of motion design. We don’t necessarily need you to animate, but we would like someone who speaks the language and can collaborate easily with motion designers.
  • Conceptual thinking: All ideas welcome. If you can make it, we’ll pitch it.
  • Grace after the 10th round: Some clients are easier than others. A big part of this job is being okay with client feedback and revisions.
  • Ability to work quickly & hit tight deadlines without sacrificing design quality.
  • A grown-up attitude: we don’t do drama here ☺
  • Extra credit: Experience with photo and video shoot production.

Collaboration

  • You strategize with internal team members to anticipate problems, analyze solutions, identify alternatives, and suggest recommendations.
  • You know how to partner with copywriters & motion designers to make visually compelling AND informative stories.
  • You demonstrate empathy in difficult team situations, leading by example, providing solutions, and giving/receiving constructive feedback with grace.

We’ll be:

Thrilled to have you on the team, and excited to nurture and grow your skills. We all love what we do at thelab—we pride ourselves on craftsmanship, thoughtfulness, and flexibility. We’re inherently curious. We’re scrappy problem solvers. We revel in unexpected solutions. Most of all, we’ll care about you, the work you do here, and the career we’ll help you grow.

Experience:

  • 4+ years in marketing/advertising design (or equivalent quality of creative work)

  • Proficient understanding of photo shoots, motion design, video editing, and best practices held within those disciplines
  • Excellent teamwork skills
  • Bonus: Would be amazing if you’re good at After Effects, Figma, and photo retouching

Role:

  • Salary of 75,000-90,000 commensurate with experience
  • Benefits include Medical, Dental, 401k Match, Flexible PTO, and more
